FAQs

Have any burning questions?

What does a criminal defense lawyer do?

A criminal defense lawyer represents you at every stage of a criminal case. That includes reviewing the evidence against you, negotiating with the prosecutor, filing motions to challenge improper evidence, and representing you at trial if your case doesn't resolve beforehand. Dan Butler's prosecutorial background means he evaluates your case the same way the DA's office does, then builds a defense around the weaknesses he finds.

Can a criminal charge be dismissed in Colorado?

Yes. Charges can be dismissed for several reasons, including insufficient evidence, procedural errors, or successful completion of a deferred judgment. A deferred judgment lets a defendant plead guilty, complete a probationary period with specific conditions, and have the charge dismissed once those conditions are met. Not every case qualifies, and eligibility depends on the charge, the defendant's criminal history, and the district attorney's discretion.

What should I do immediately after being arrested in Denver?

Stay calm, and do not resist. Clearly state that you're invoking your right to remain silent and that you want an attorney. You are not required to answer questions about the incident, and anything you say can be used against you later. Avoid discussing your case with anyone other than your attorney, including over jail phone calls, which are often recorded. Contact a Denver criminal defense attorney as early as possible.

How much does a criminal defense attorney cost?

Cost depends on the complexity of your charge, whether your case goes to trial, and the attorney you hire. Price Criminal Defense offers a free consultation to review your case and discuss fees upfront, so you know what to expect before you commit to representation.

Why does hiring a former prosecutor matter?

A former prosecutor has sat on the other side of the courtroom. Dan Butler knows how the Denver DA's office builds a case, what evidence carries weight, and how plea negotiations really work behind the scenes. That perspective allows him to identify weaknesses in the prosecution's case that an attorney without that background might miss.
